Originally from England, Brennan Simcock has won many awards for art direction and graphic design locally and nationally, including Best of Show and numerous other Pele Awards from the American Advertising Federation – Hawaii. Brennan has over 25 years of advertising and graphic design experience in Europe, the US mainland and Hawaii and is now pursuing abstract art and printmaking. He is a member of Honolulu Printmakers.
Brennan uses monoprinting, a process in which a drawing or painting on a flat, unworked printing plate or other surface is transferred using pressure to a sheet of paper. The technique offers a wonderful and expressive opportunity to explore new themes, ideas, styles and spontaneous improvisation. Unlike traditional printmaking, each monoprint is unique. Using a variety of different inks, chin-colle papers and found objects, an artist can create fun and exciting work.
Exhibitions of his prints and awards include: 2014 Gallery at the Pali, 2015 Honolulu Printmakers Honblue Purchase Award, 2016 and 2019 Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Recognition Awards, 2017 Honolulu Printmakers Honblue Purchase Award, and the 2017 and 2018 Association of Hawaii Artists Awards.
